What’s Zeppole?

In New York and especially in Italy, street fairs are a common way to celebrate the day honoring the patron saint of a community or village.

In Italy, the whole town closes down to celebrate their
saint’s day.

Sicily’s patron
saint is San Giuseppe
(Saint Joseph).

In New York, the feast of San Gennaro is a popular annual event, and to celebrate, they close down several streets in Little Italy and have food vendors, games and of course, a procession
featuring the
patron saint,
San Gennaro.

To recall this tradition, DiPrima Dolci makes zeppoli--tender and delicious Italian donuts--
on the last Saturday of every month.
We don’t make them more frequently because, like all special
things, the anticipation is
part of the
enjoyment!
